I’ve been having a blast thinking about all the new changes that may poke it’s head up when it comes to this remake. Most of it has to do with the controls I would have to guess. Probably a more traditional over the shoulder and iron sight aim. I can tell you replaying mgs3, trying to look down the sights of the XM16 is an absolute hassle. we’d probably see something closer to the controls of splinter cell CT/DA or mgsv, althought Ive heard this isn’t fox engine. There’s no pressure sensitivity in modern controllers so alot of the buttons will be reworked. I DONT want a sprint button though, inch crawling? maybe, if you’re gonna put tip toeing back in PLEASSEE make it easier. This game had too much controls, half the reason i loved it though,
It sounds like controls are basically the only thing we’ll see being changed, at least for now anyway. Seen a lot of people saying 3DS remake controls may be what they go for, something like Peace Walker’s with crouch walking and over the shoulder aiming with 3D camera. I actually somehow found a new (unsealed) copy locally a few months ago of that version and picked it up, and lots of people on Reddit said it’s probably the best version to play given the controls if you can put up with the FPS issues. Definitely doubt it’d be Fox engine, that’s basically defunct now isn’t it? I think PES abandoned it a few years ago as it didn’t work well for a football game and UE5 is likely easiest to work with.
I have seen some suggest we may see something thrown in with Skull Face but honestly the most I’d expect is something small added in after the end, maybe another call.
I sincerely hope they don’t go the Resident Evil retcon route. If they absolutely have to add references to games that have been released since MGS3, they should be passive references that don’t change the structure of the story, cut-scenes, dialogue, etc. So maybe it’s something in the level somewhere, or an extra codec conversation but I would be pissed if they started adding references cut into OG content.
I quite like the MGSV controls, movement and action have good weight and fluidity. If they shoot for something like that I wouldn’t be mad. It just occurred to me that if they don’t nail down the controls, and the game looks great but plays poorly, that would also really fuck the game. It could be a perfect 1:1 true remaster and if the controls suck, we’re boned. It’ll be unplayable. I think a traditional over the shoulder camera, MGSV feel and weight, and a detailed but easy to use first person sight picture would be ideal.
A positive change I’m anticipating is brand new weapons models. In my memories all the MGS3 weapons look and feel how I expect them to, but then when you go back and actually see them they look like this lol. I want to see high quality, detailed models of the period accurate weapons. If they half ass it like CoD Black Ops does it just won’t be the same. There are very nuanced differences between say the XM16E1, the Colt 601/602/604, and the later widely adopted M16A1 — all very early M16 variants. To the untrained eye they all virtually appear to be a plain old M16 but upon closer inspection there are numerous differences between the three, good example here for interested parties.
Hopefully a new prison nightmare game since Guy Savage is apparently not allowed to feature since the PS2.
I don’t expect lots to be changed, though in some ways I want it to add stuff to make the experience new. I think a Skull Face cameo could be cool, I wouldn’t expect it to be anything large, maybe just something you can see a glimpse of if you’re incredibly quick in certain moments.
I’m hoping we see a more in-depth camo index. I noticed in the Delta promo material and trailer Snake is covered in mud, or partially covered in mud. I’m wondering if they’ll have a natural camouflage mechanic where you can get really mucked up and just blend in, Predator and First Blood style.
That would be cool too. Wasn’t Guy Savage supposed to be expanded into a whole game?
This was my only thought on a change in MGS Delta. But I’m not sure if it’ll be done to the extent that it could be. I found MGSV a little lacklustre with the camo options and I doubt they’ll take it much further than that. But I could be wrong!
I hope we get more camo options and an more in depth index. I wanna be almost total stealth mode if I’m mucked up head to toe, rising out of the mud to slash some throats. I’d also like some of the Russian patterns for Snake. It was quite common during the Vietnam conflict for CIDG and MACV to sometimes wear black pajamas, NVA uniforms, pith helmets or straw hats so they appeared as VC or NVA at a distance to other VC patrols.
Interestingly, all of this Viet equipment was produced either locally or in Japan as the actual uniforms didn’t fit the American’s who were of larger statue. That’s right, the government paid to have all of the uniforms custom made for these ops. Not quite as simple as on-site procurement. The Russians are a different story though, would likely be easier to get appropriately sized uniforms.
I want to see more wildlife like giant anacondas and wild boars. The gavials better make a return though so I can make friends with them. But for real I’d like to see more emergent gameplay features being made possible by all the systems at work like in the original but with more processing power. Also I want to be able to get headshots from across the map still because the aiming was so precide before. They have a high bar to reach for sure, and I hope they do a good job with it.
Talking to @Orca, he brought up a good point about camo and crawling through the dirt. it really doesn’t matter what your camo is after you’ve been diving on the ground or going prone, eventually you’re clothes just turns into the dirt of the environment.
Made me had an idea, idea of constantllyy switching camo, what if we do a few rolls in the dirt, maybe we get a 10 percent increase camo index instead of a 20% you’d acquire going through the survival viewer. Basically think of the way snake looks after threading through that swampy quicksand.
