MGS3 Chat Topic

Kojima has tweeted a couple of times over the past few days reminiscing about MGS3 and MGS3 mocap specifically, but I thought this one was cool.

Something previously alluded to in the Making of MGS3 and the CQC background manual was about how it’s meant to be more catered toward hostage situations and intense urban environments, it’s interesting to see the team actively acknowledged 9/11 as a source of change in what military combat would look and function as to get the ball running on CQC as it is in MGS3 onward. MGS3’s military advisors, Motosada Mori, mocap and dev team hit the nail on the head as much as they could with predicting things like prevalence of chokeholds and redirection in modern MCMAP.

I swore i’ve seen footage too of both a cqc dude showing them how to disarm and chokehold, as well as weapons training him and his team went though(albeit probably airsoft) I gotta give credit to the man, makes his games feel more grounded.

Yeah you likely have because it does exist. There’s a really hilarious behind the scenes video of a CQC demonstration at the Konami offices and one of the lacky office workers just gets choke-slammed onto the table behind them, collapsing it and throwing him down. :sob:

I cant seem to find it but Chad will probably be able to find it fore me. I kinda vividly remember kojima and his crew in camo playing with airsoft ak in soem woodsy areas.

I remember this video too. Or rather, I seem to remember several different videos. There was one for MGS2, I think, where the MGS team is using airsoft guns with swat guys or something, right? Haven’t seen those in forever.

Wouldn’t it be great if he PARTICIPATED with his FRIENDS???

We’ve gotta do a deep dive into this someday.

Hey everyone, just revisiting MGS3 and got to that unforgettable ladder climb. You know the one, where Snake’s stamina gauge is put to the ultimate test. The nostalgia hit hard. What’s your standout moment from MGS3? Let’s reminisce!

Recently it was literally just firing up the game and watching the opening cinematic and title sequence after so many years. Instantly too me back to when it was released.

One of my first favourite nostalgic memories would be shooting down a hornets nest for the first time to chase away the guards.
Messing around with the guards in Granini Gorky lab, with the cig spray.
My favourite fight would be The Fury.

Absolutely get that feeling. The opening is like a time machine. Good to revisit those memories!

One of my fav things to do is the hangin from a tree limb headshot with the 1911, i remember it was in the trailer and i thought it was sooo bad ass, lol, to this day when the oppurtunity present itself i’m shooting from the frees like a Naked Monkey!

Playing the game again now that it’s on PC. I used to be very strict about doing always non-lethal but I gave up that rule this time and had the most fun I think I’ve had with the game in a long time. Turns out the game is more enjoyable when you’re not being a retarded tryhard to impress the invisible people in your head lmao.

Mods are also pretty neat. I only really tried out the crouch walking mod which is cool (but still feels kinda weird/wrong) and one to replace the ugly sneaking suit with the one from Portable Ops. I’m pretty hyped to see what more people manage to do with the game.

No clue who that one death was. I’m seething.

It’s really the best way to play. I was just talking to the boys about this last night. We were discussing MGS3 on PS2 v. Master Collection and all the machinations you have to go through in place of pressure sensitivity. I made the point that those moments where you’ve got an enemy grappled and your knife is at their throat, you’re living right on that knife’s edge. One slip is all it took and it really felt like you were in control of that guard’s fate. The new control schemes can’t come close to that feeling.

I’m not too far away from finishing my replay and I know I’ll minimum have 2 kills because I knocked out two guards on the bridge near the start of the game and when I ran across and looked back they were gone

On the subject of doing lethal playthroughs I do agree in part. I think 2 and 3 are pretty fun non-lethal but I can’t wait to load up my old MGS4 saves soon and unleash shit like the Tanegashima and the Big Boss camo on enemies. Playing lethal on MGSV is one of the only ways I found that game fun.
