Can you imagine being Scorched out the crevices after engaging them. Spraying those flamethrowers down those tight crawl passages, it could have been an amazing and frightening experience. for that era it wasn’t unheard of, especially given that their soviets, Russia didnt give one F.

that music is pretty sick too!

You know as a kid playing MGS3, i never really understood fully the extreme over the top sadism of Volgin. He’s actually quite a disgusting character when you break down the things he enjoys he’s a real sick pup. When I replay it i’ll take great joy blasting him with the M37 and rpg 7 .

@SnakeEater MGS3 is such a playground for experimentation. Only a few weeks ago i realized you can set held up quards on fire by holding the torch close to their backs. it’s wild lol.

I do. MGS3 and RE4 were a few of the first to do over the shoulder the right way, I remember one of the very first was Winback on PS2 (first on N64). I remember buying Winback at Kay Bee Toys and being like ‘damn’ since it had an over the shoulder AND a cover system. People forget the fixed camera angle dominated the first like decade of real 3D gaming since it’s so ubiquitous now.

I gotta replay MGS3 man.

I always heard that the Ocelot Unit fight was kinda okay dificultty-wise for casual plays but a nightmare for speedrunners. But holy shit, when I tried it myself I got humiliated. Must have alerted them about 20 times.

Wht are they well hidden or are they actually seeking you out?

@Hessikin , you’re right dude. crazy how far we’ve coming gaming wise. next innovation is just straight matrix style play.

Im going to sound like an old man here, but I think that the 3d camera ruins what Snake Eater was going for (being a slow, stealthy jungle game that made you think about every move). The 3d camera makes certain areas just too easy.

HOWEVER! I think that the 3d camera DOES make the experience of PLAYING MGS3 much better. Fixed camera without the soliton radar is hard enough but when the camera does stupid things like face Snake as he’s walking TOWARDS ENEMIES!!! it’s time to admit that things went wrong lol

also, ive been looking for an OLD OLD MGO1 trailer, can anyone help me? it starts off the same way as the mgs4 tgs trailer, with the fpv of the soldier, planes flying overhead, except its sokolov with an ak walking down the long lane of brown town, then snake sneaks up behind him, and sokolov cqcs him. and at the end of the trailer we see rowdy reiko. it was on a playstation magazine disc, i cant find that shit on youtube ANYWHERE

Plus one to that. I ran a search a while back, it’s nowhere to be seen.

It’s the one you get right after meetig EVA for the first time. They are actively hunting you down.

It’s so much more a thrilling experience when the enemy is actively seeking you out instead of just following their predetermined paths. Puts your brain on edge.

@Departed wow, you made me ptsd nostalgia trip so hard. I honestly have not seen that trailer since…maybe even before i joined mgsf. that’s Amazing, thanks!

Any of you MGO1 players remember there was some guy on there called Psycho Mantis, he’d always make a 1vs1 room with the description “kojima if you dont join i’ll kill myself”. and if you joined he’d just kick you out?

LMAO NO but I do remember the guy who would make the room PISTOL WARS pistols only on brown town uniques allowed

man mgo1 had the sickest maps

I remember constantly having 1 v 1 matches with Raikov vs Ocelot using nothing but pistols in the mountaintop level. Without the ranged weapons, that arena was perfect for a 1 v 1 cat & mouse showdown. Because even if you got the drop on the guy, they could just as easily roll away and fight back. As someone who hates multiplayer games now, that was the kinda shit that made MGO1 so much fun.

Word. Very few multiplayer games have any strategy anymore. It’s really just a slog, right? I think Titanfall 2 had some really solid PVP MP that was overlooked, that’s really the last game that comes to mind that I felt anyway about the PVP of. COD and recently BF entries have really dropped the ball. Moreso BF than COD. That Pacific update they released in…DEC 2019 was perfect, and about a month later they re-did the weapon balance and fucked the whole game up.

Brown town, city under siege, you guys remember the cluster fuck of Pillbox puratory. just eh freaking balls out fire fight with everyone try to escape their spawn in those tine rooms. that hallway was a straight up death zone.

Damn CUS was amazing. What were those other maps? Killhouse A & B?

CUS
Brown Town
That Forest
Mountain Top
Granin’s Crib
Killhouse A
Killhouse B (added to MPOP)
Killhouse C (added to MPOP)
Pillbox Purgatory (added to MPOP)
Snowy Place
Ghost Factory (added to MPOP)
That Cabin the woods where you find the M60

And to this day, not a single MGO game ever had maps half as good as these ones. Honestly, Portable Ops Plus was the only one that came close, far as level design goes, and that was because it had a third of MGO1’s maps remade for its multiplayer.

duuuuude PBP WAS THE SHIT the hallway of death at the start was unlike any other shooter experience i ever had

One of the most rewarding MGO experiences for me was someone perched in the hallway of death sniping everything that moved, and having to find a way to his side of the hall and kill him before he even saw me. Shit genuinely felt like a well-scripted mission in a single player video game and felt just as gratifying to pull off successfully.

He still won the match by a lot but still…
