Metal Gear Solid Movie

If Snake does not show Otacon love blooming on the battlefield we boycott the movie.

I agree. That scene must be in the film.

There are so many moments in MGS1 that set it apart from other games. Even if the film was three or four hours long, it wouldn’t do the story justice. Kal’s suggestion is the correct one, I think; create a miniseries that encompasses the original eighteen hour deadline, and make it episodic à la 24.

On the contrary, we need to see a bishoujo version of Wolf.

Also there should be a shower scene because she breathes through her breasts. You will be ashamed of your words and deeds!

LOL Nate don’t jinx this shit man! You’re playing a dangerous game!

I own this figure, ive never taken it out the box. I bet all the horny koj shit is gonna be drastically trimmed out.

Oscar Isaac recently had a brief interview with TotalFilm about why he’s excited to play Solid Snake and his history with the MGS franchise. It seems as though he has a pretty solid understanding of MGS’ general themes and really wants to run with it.

"I love the feeling that the game would give me every time I’d play. It’s just a strangely isolated, mournful, lonely game to play that has these incredible moments of violence and terror, with these weird, psychedelic concepts and villains. But, yes, it’s kind of like psychedelic military horror things that happen.

“And the truth is, underneath the whole thing, it’s an anti-war story. So I think those are the elements I really love. And, like I said, I love the feel of playing it, and the big question of: can something like that be transferred – or can you explore those themes in a really interesting way – on film?”

Pretty interesting, it seems he does actually have a genuine understanding and connection to MGS as he was spouting off about in 2019 with claims that he wanted to play Solid Snake. Considering the director is a self-professed MGS addict/fan, I’m quite excited to see what a bunch of essentially Hollywood-funded fans can make of this. Especially considering this quote:

Ah man, this is refreshing to hear. He sounds like one of us!

We were just discussing this in Warcom yesterday, weren’t we?

I think so! And you know it’s really exciting for anything like this to get a film because if it’s successful, it not only makes investors reconsider the potentiality for merchandise, spin-offs and games - but it makes people investigate and deep dive more to find out the story.

I think what I’m hoping for the best out of this is a minor re-invention of the Action film with stealth and psychedelia at its core, with a gripping story and a potential cliff-hanger to hook people properly into the world. And it sounds like they have every component to do it!

It really warms me to Read that he essentially sounds like one of us. He understands what MGS is all about and it’s the whole experience, not jsut being a stealth action game, this is really refreshing and i hope the script is up to snuff.

Now if it’s got the right writers and director we could be in business.

I dont think it’s impossible. The bebop series have both the original creator and composer from the anime doing some kind of work on the Live action series, this gives me hope for futher adaptations. Kojima is the one game who’d be perfect to work onset for a MGS movie.

For sure, a solid cast and crew is the best we can hope for and I really think that some of the concept art which the current pegged director, Jordan Vogt Roberts, has shared is a really great indicator of it. He’s even went on record to say that he would like it to be R rated and differentiate it from other video game films.

I’ll post some concept art below. The absolute best thing about this IMO is the visual style and the way that it’s taking cues from everything in the franchise - with some parts being totally fucking new and out there.

What we know so far is it’s got Oscar Isaac as Solid Snack. It will supposedly take place across different timelines (probably flashbacks of the Biggie era), and JVR said if he ever directed the MGS movie, there was no way he wouldn’t include Gray Fox. I don’t have a lot of confidence in the script, since it’s being helmed by one of the Jurassic World writers, but JVR is a good director who knows spectacle. And if nothing else, this should be a visually entertaining movie to watch, much like Kong: Skull Island was.

Now this is getting me stoked. Cracking up at Ocelot on that little tank bike lol.

Yikes! Jurassic World was not a film I ever planned to see again lol.

I actually thought Skull Island was an extremely fun film, and I’m always interested in anything that’s even remotely related to the Vietnam War, though Kong only uses it as a back drop and a means to include an iconic soundtrack to score the film.

Let’s be real, good or bad, we’re all going to be sitting in that theater watching “BASED ON A STORY AND CHARACTERS BY HIDEO KOJIMA” across the big screen. I think an apt comparison at this stage is Ghost in the Shell (2017). Everything seemed like it was in the right place, and look how that turned out. I think this could go either way still.

Whilst this is true, you have to hope he’ll be kept in check with the writing team surrounding him. I know it’s becoming more common (unfortunately in many circumstances) for the lead writer’s word to be law, but there are still a lot of cases where the co-writers correct and amend a lot to be faithful to source materials.

Even if it does bomb though - lets all look forward to: Metal Gear Solid: The Game of the Movie of the Game

Wow this is VERY Death Stranding and I’d love if, SOMEHOW, there’s a connection between the two!

Getting some real Metal SLUG vibes off this and I dig it more than i thought I would.

Please no, Not for one movie! Ghost in the Shell’s Live action adaptation tried something similar where it took all the seasons of the series, the manga, and the 95 movie, mushed it all up together and made a convoluted mess. Pretty enough to look at but in the end it had the same energy as a Youtube Fanfic movie.

Bro you Know EXACTLY what I mean and I dont know if i have the heart to survive another of my ALL TIME fav series getting the same treatment. with that being said I’m going to the movie to watch this even if there’s a SIGMA ALPHA variant of the Beer Virus

You and me both. Thankfully, the Netflix Bebop adaptation is shaping up nicely.

One thing that’s interesting is that we haven’t (to my knowledge) seen any art of Liquid but we have seen Big Boss seemingly in his place torturing Snake with Sniper Wolf in the background.
How do yall feel about potentially giving Liquid the axe in favor of Big Boss?

Personally I think it could be a good choice. My expectations for this are absolutely bottom tier and I think the best thing the movie could do is focus on putting cool Metal Gear shit on the screen instead of trying to be a 1:1 adaptation of MGS1 which it could never live up to anyway. The further away it moves from trying to act like a faithful retelling the more room it has to be something entertaining.

I…actually kind of like that idea. I think it’s a more cohesive continuity to be honest. I think the clone subplot will confuse a lot of movie goers to be honest.

Same boat over here.

I’m conflicted on this sentiment, because this is kinda what the Ghost in the Shell movie did and it was fucking terrible, from a writing perspective. Disjointed and non-nonsensical, which is saying a lot for a series that’s supposed to be about cybernetic organisms and transhumanism. They took the coolest scenes from the film, and kind of strung them together without the narrative. The recent Resident Evil film did something similar and that was an even bigger travesty.

I said it before, but I think MGS would work way better as an 8 part mini-series, single director and cinematographer, and bring in the gamut of action and espionage writers to work out the story across those eight episodes.

Whatever we get, I just hope it brings new fans into the fold.

I mean for the adaptation liquid can be brought in for the second game if it reaches that far but people like Sniper Wolf would make alot of sense being in the Big boss arc. I would love to have people experience how haunting that game feels but that would take a director who’s amazing at his job, I think more than likely we’re gonna get an action movie. great ideas though
